Eugene “Mean Gene” Hill has used his KO punch to start his professional boxing career with the same success he found in the amateurs. Three fights all resulting in quick knockouts have this young heavyweight on the road to success.

Eugene grew up and lives in Dickinson, located half-way between Houston and Galveston. As a football player in high school, he excelled at fullback and middle linebacker. His father Larry Mills was a boxer, and he grew up with three brothers all evenly spaced one year apart in age. He always wanted to box and gives credit to his friend Brian Hernandez for introducing him to the gym. Eugene describes his style as that of a brawler/puncher and his favorite boxers are Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson, the latter of which he emulates in a modified “peek-a-boo” type method in the ring.

Among his numerous amateur accomplishments, Eugene won six consecutive Houston-area Gold Gloves championships. In 2002 Hill won his division at the Ringside World Championships. Then in 2006, he won championships at the National Black Gloves and the Blue and Gold tournaments. His ring success earned him national rankings in the super heavyweight division of #5 in 2005 and #3 in 2006.

“His first three pro fights have been all about getting him comfortable fighting in the pro ranks, trainer Aaron Navarro shared. Hill recalled, “My first fight was in Kansas. The guy came out kind of wild and I had to be cautious. I was patient and ended the fight with a body shot. In my second fight though, it was here in Houston, so it was the first time all my friends and family were there, and I came out real nervous and made some mistakes. Once I settled down I was able to get the KO.” In his third pro fight, Hill’s pressure and power forced his opponent to quit mid-way through the 2nd round.

Eugene is a devout attendee of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Dickinson. He draws inspiration from his 6 year old son, Eugene Jr., and his many fans and supporters who motivate him towards success.

Plan to see a lot more of him in 2007 as his team plans to keep a very active fight schedule.
